My son whispers the same words to me every night as he falls asleep.
“Don’t close your eyes mummy. Watch the door.”
Each night I reassure him there is nothing to be afraid of as there are no monsters lurking outside. Yet each night he repeats his simple request – watch the door.
A parent spends around 14 hours a week putting their children to sleep. Those hours are far from empty.
I often find myself wrestling with my own fears as my child looks to me to protect him from his. It is in these hours my minds swirls with the words I eventually put onto paper.
Of the thousands of thoughts, and countless words, these are the ones I wish to share.
